RECONFIGUREMENT BY E. Alan Fleischauer

Reconfigurement by E. Alan Fleishauer is a book about planning ahead. Fleishauer has been a financial advisor for over 20 years and wrote this book as an answer to some of the questions he has had to answer while working with his clients. Fleishauer is honest about what is required for one to reconfigure their life and prepare for retirement. At the beginning of the book, Fleishauer writes about the need for one to have income while planning for retirement. He then goes on to explain ways to use the money and opportunities available earlier on in life to one’s advantage so that one can enjoy retirement. He supports his explanations for the need for reconfiguration on the statics that show that the life expectancy in America is rising, and the need to prepare for retirement is urgent now more than ever and needs to start early. He estimates that a person will live approximately 15 years after retirement and the only way one can have peace and joy during that period is if they have reconfigured their lives early. Some of the topics he tackles are investment planning, insurance, risk management, wills, budgeting, career, and a number of other useful topics to get one’s finances and life in order for retirement.

One of the things that I loved about this book was the extensive research that must have gone into giving the reader options for the various topics that were being discussed. Fleishauer went as far as adding links that he had found helpful to help improve the reader’s self-awareness and help the reader make better choices. He did not only include links but gave reviews on his experience with each of the resources he shared which helped manage my expectations as a reader when I used the links. I also loved the chapter on recommended reading which I believe will be very helpful for anyone that wants to lean further into reconfiguring their lives.

The book was concise and practical leaving the reader with a number of options to change their finances.

I would recommend this book to any person looking for answers on how to plan effectively for their retirement.
